Research Overview
KX20 is a two-component blend of Selank (CAS 129954-34-3) and Semax (CAS 80714-61-0) in a single vial, so no single CAS number applies to the product. Both are short synthetic peptides developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow, and both share the same design idea: a biologically active fragment extended with the C-terminal tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro, which slows enzymatic breakdown considerably compared with the bare fragment.
Selank is a heptapeptide derived from the immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with Pro-Gly-Pro appended. Semax is a heptapeptide derived from ACTH(4-10), with methionine substituted at the N-terminus, likewise extended with Pro-Gly-Pro. They are studied in separate literatures — Selank largely in anxiolytic and immunopeptide work, Semax largely in neurotrophic and BDNF-related work — and they are quantified separately on the certificate of analysis.
