Why Crypto Only, and What Replaces a Chargeback

Card processing is closed to this category, not chosen against. What you give up, and what a supplier should put in writing instead.

Updated 8 October 2026

Most research-peptide suppliers settle in cryptocurrency, and the usual question from a first-time buyer is whether that is a warning sign. It is worth answering plainly: card processing is closed to this category, not chosen against. What matters is what replaces the protections a card would have given you, and whether the supplier has written those down.

Why cards are not an option

Card networks and the payment processors that sit on top of them maintain lists of restricted and prohibited business categories. Research chemicals and peptides sit in that territory, and a merchant account opened for this category is normally declined at underwriting or closed shortly after the first volume appears. The practical consequences are that processors will not board the account, and that a supplier who does find a route is usually one step from losing it, which is worse for buyers than being told up front.

The honest version is therefore: this is not a preference. A supplier offering cards in this category is either misdescribing what they sell to their processor, or routing payments through something that will stop working.

What you actually give up

One thing, and it is a real thing: the chargeback. A card payment can be reversed by your bank weeks later, with the burden falling on the merchant. An on-chain payment cannot be reversed by anyone. That shifts the risk, and it means the supplier’s own written policy is the entire protection — so it is worth reading before the order, not after.

What should replace it

  • A written window for problems. Ours is seven days from delivery for a missing item, a wrong item, or a broken or compromised vial, with photographs and the order number — see what to do in the first seven days.
  • A stated remedy. Replacement at the supplier’s cost, or a refund where no replacement is available. “We will look after you” is not a remedy.
  • A refund mechanism in writing, including the currency, the conversion basis and who pays network fees. Ours refunds the US dollar value of the order in digital currency to a wallet you provide, at the rate on the day it is sent, with network fees deducted, within five business days of the claim being confirmed.
  • Underpayment and overpayment handling. An order held for the balance rather than silently cancelled; an overpayment refunded. Both should be written down, because both happen.
  • A payment deadline you can see. Ours reserves the order for 48 hours, with the deadline shown on the order page.
  • Verifiable testing. Where there is no chargeback, the certificate is what makes the purchase checkable in advance. A report per lot with a task number you can open at the laboratory’s own site is worth more than any payment method.

Practical points when paying on-chain

  • Match the network, not just the coin. USDT on TRC20 and USDT on ERC20 are different networks. Sending to an address on the wrong network is the most common way funds are lost, and recovery is often impossible.
  • Use the address shown for your order, copied rather than typed, and check the first and last characters after pasting.
  • Stablecoins remove the price question. USDT, USDC and PYUSD are sent 1:1 against the dollar total. BTC, ETH, SOL and TRX require sending the equivalent at the current rate, which is where underpayments come from.
  • Network fees are the sender’s. Sending the exact total minus the fee produces an underpayment.
  • Keep the transaction ID. It is the receipt, and it is what resolves any question about whether a payment arrived.

The mechanics step by step are in how to pay with crypto; what happens after payment is confirmed is in after you order.

What to be suspicious of

Not the payment method — the absence of everything around it. A supplier with no written problem window, no stated refund basis, no per-lot certificate with a verifiable task number, and no way to check an order without an account has not replaced the chargeback with anything. That is the thing to decline, and it has nothing to do with which currency is accepted.
